Official 4MB RAM Cart HSS-0167 & U.S. Saturn compatibill

by eastside Sat Apr 14, 2007 11:32 am

Question:

Image

Is the the Sega Saturn Official 4MB RAM Cart HSS-0167 (Japanese) compatible with a U.S. model Saturn?

Does it have any direct save capability or is it just ram extension?

Anyone got region patched imports like SFZ3 to work with the Official RAM CART successfully on a U.S. Saturn?????

Thanks.

As far as I know, Saturn carts are region-free

Thanks.

Do you know if the HSS-0167 was strictly ram expansion with no save ability? I think that was the case.

If anyone can provide first hand confirmation experience with the HSS-0167 and U.S. Saturns I would appreciate your shaing it.

Is this the one you mean?

If so, I scored one on ebay, we'll just have to wait for it to arrive

Yeah, that would be it.

An ebayer told me that he thought it might not work if the ISO's were region patched. I wouldn't think that would be the case.

I appreciate your sharing your experience.

I have this cart. I bought it in Japan. It has no save capabilities. It is the official Sega 4 meg RAM expansion used with Pocket Fighter and the two VS games. All it does is enable you to play the VS games and Pocket Fighter with the extra animation. Oh yeah, and Astra Super Stars. There might be another I forgot.

It works with the US Saturn just fine. I have a US Saturn with a region switch inside the battery door and it's just dandy. I even took the bugger to Japan with me when I studied in 1998-1999. That's when I bought the 4 meg cart and my 2 official Sega save carts, as well as a crap ton of cheap imports.

Thanks. I appreciate the response :)

I'm so glad it works with a U.S. Saturn. I guess the only catch is that you must have the 4MB RAM cart game's saves in your internal memory to use them.

In other words...

I just bought HSS-0138 (the official Sega backup memory card). If I want to play Street Fighter Zero 3 (which requires the 4MB RAM cart) then I will have to save and load from internal memory.
