What he said! I guess it is still playable with homebrew etc. and let's face, it paved the way for FF(XI??) and unfortunately, hasn't really been replaced- even the new PSO's community never really met what the first PSO has... And to my knowledge, nothing has had the multi-region chat functionality, which I thought was awesome- the fact you could play well with people all over the place makes this irreplaceable, IMHO.
Sigh- 400++ hours I played on that thing...
