I just thought since our humble forums are so damn small, and we are trying to grow to a larger community base, it was time to make a thread here and spread as much knowledge possible about modding Half-Life on Dreamcast.
As many of you know, There are some great mods that have been ported to the DC from PC to be full stand alone games complete with custom menus and whatnot.
There is work being done by Compiling HL-SDK dlls for DC using the WinCE Devkit. With this, ANY half-Life PC mod could potentialy be ported to DC, thus opening up the possibility for homebrews that take advantage of the Dreamcast hardware to the extreme.

Here is what has been done on it so far.

I am calling on the community to help out with mods as we need more people involved, and I don't know the first thing about modding or coding, but I am good at spreading the word.
Anyway, we have already posted the 2 latest Half-Life Dreamcast mods over at Moddb.

We just need to expand and spread the word, and I haven't talked about Half-Life mods here for a while, so I know many of you have no idea about the breakthroughs they have made.

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
I'd love to help if I could, but, my knowledge with coding is limited.
Looking over at all the ideas. I can say the on that interests me most is that Duke Theft Auto mod. I'd love another free roaming 3D game on the DC.
I take whatever I can get though. Support the little bit of life the DC still has in the homebrew and modding circle.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
I've always wanted to get into the HL modding scene, I think the biggest hindrance to that is I haven't the faintest clue what tools to use.

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
Thanks for replying. As far as tools needed for modding, they have some tutorials, and special tools just for this game on Dreamcast.
My friend made a tutorial on how to create maps and stuff for HL goldsource and what tools you need.
http://www.dcfan.net.ru/forum/f83/half- ... read-3501/
Also, there are some great tips on the second page of this thread. I just couldn't wrap my head around it still.
http://www.dcfan.net.ru/forum/f109/oper ... 2-dc-3603/
Someone like yourself who is literate in modding terms should understand what they were trying to explain to me right away.
I was wanting to try and get maps for that so we could use the Day of Defeat assets to create a WW2 FPS game in the goldsource engine for DC, as the system is lacking that kind of FPS... Dreammatrix already ported all the assets over to a DC format, but the maps are going to need to be created from scratch or something becuase they arent working on Dreamcast. Here is what Dreammatrix said.
Good Luck, and I hope I have given you enough information. If you need help with anything, just sign up at the forums and ask for help in the English section and the modders there should be more than willing to help you learn the hang of it.

I recomend downloading Paranoia and They Hunger and mounting the CDI in daemon tools or a like program to see how the folder structure is to get a good idea of how to mod it.This mod is realy good it has nice textures and models but ins´t working on DC
Unfortunately the map compiler that they used is not compatible with HLDC
The only way to port this mod is getting the .maps source
I descompiled some maps and compiled with another compiler only for see how it work on DC
And uploaded the files as a selfboot cdi image!
So, if someone wants start you own II Word-War mod
The only thing that you need do is mapping; and put your new maps on map folder.
Textures,models,sprites are inside and ready!

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
I have alot of the basics down, just need more practice with objects and decals. Sent a thank you for the videos pm to divagante's youtube account and he said he'd make a video if I wanted him to. He certainly is helpful. I'll upload a video of my work sometime tomorrow hopefully.

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
Yeah, he is a really great guy, glad to know that his videos helped somebody. I really want to thank you for doing this, I had no idea if this thread would get any posts, but here you are trying it out and that is pretty awesome of you.

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
Its always been at the back of my mind to get into modding and I always loved both Half-Life and the Dreamcast so this thread was definitely up my ally. Does divagante do modeling / animation too? That was my main interest point though I have no experience in that area. I have a little experience in programming, took 4 years of it in high school but I wouldn't exactly say I'd know what I was doing writing code for the Dreamcast or the Half-Life engine but I guess thats who everyone starts out.

Re: Half-Life Dreamcast modding site
I think he tried to make a gun in Milkshape before, but not sure how good he was at it. Basicaly, what these guys find easier to do is take already made PC mods and port them to Dreamcast, so the hard stuff is already done like modeling and whatnot.
I reckon a good modder or a person like yourself that has the drive and determination to learn can create new experiances for us not available on any other platform.
Like I said earlier about custom .dll's, when Moi gets somebody to help him find a way to fix the compiler errors on the Windows CE SDK, we could have ANY PC HL mod on Dreamcast granted we stayed within the capibilities of the system, and didn't try to port huge maps.
http://www.dcfan.net.ru/forum/f83/compi ... vkit-3567/
Think of it, hombrew games that take full advantage of the power of the DC, like Half-Life Rally for instance, just imagine a new rally racer in 128bit and you can understand how this will revolutionize the homebrew scene.
You could even make sidescrolling 3D platformers with this engine!
They even said with enough work, we could possibly get online multiplayer to work too! I just can't believe how much progress has been done on HLDC, it is truely amazing what potential this shows.
