Re: Dave's pre-writing exercises: On Gaming & Community #1
As to the origins of the gaming community, where do you feel the delinquent, virtually non-gaming element fits in? From what I understand (I don't have first hand experience), is that arcades tended to attract people who weren't primarily there to play video games, but rather to loiter, skip school,...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
I have a tendency to over exaggerate ones position, resulting in me putting words into someone else mouth, which I apologize for.

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
Funny how you still haven't dealt with the wealth of evidence from the real world indicating that women are far better represented in computer sciences in other countries. You said it just a few posts ago. It wasn't true, at least not in anything you provided. And you did never say that women make ...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
Yes, if you are going to make claims, surprisingly enough, you need to back them up. If you were referring to that article you posted a few pages back, about women in the sciences, you must not have read it. Not once did it list a country in which women earn more degrees in computer science than men...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
I acknowledged what you said, but posited that you don't think they have real world, observable outcomes in job preference. Do you dispute this? I don't want to put words into your mouth. Second, you haven't shown me anything conclusive to lead me to believe that women would be better than or equal ...

Re: Games as teaching tools for programming
Did you ever read the book "reality is broken"? I wasn't convinced by all its arguments, but it was interesting look at how games could be used promote job skills, solve social problems, etc.

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
No strawman was constructed. Was just pointing out how you dramatically minimize the role biology plays on real life outcomes. Biology is the baseline, then social factors come into play. I wouldn't anticipate parity in the job market anytime soon. And I wouldn't say nobody agrees with me. Here are ...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
Chimps throw poop, too. On a serious note, I think there are real biological differences between men and women, which lead most women to have a maternal instinct. That instinct materializes at a young age, leading girls to want to act as if the dolls are their children. I don't know, though, if thi...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
Are you...are you even familiar with the scientific method and how scientific questions are investigated? The massive amount of research conducted in the field conclusively shows that men and women think differently and value different things. It's not surprising or controversial that programming, a...

Re: Gender gaps and pay disparity in the game industry.
The differing skills aren’t necessarily intellectual, as other personality factors may account for the difference. And just because women have been shown to be able to program isn’t proof that they are drawn to the job or are better at it or equal to men. Nor are Cosmo articles substitutes for scien...
