Re: The Comic Book Thread
Funny you brought that up, because I've been thinking about this. I was somewhat confused. I've heard the term "graphic novel" before, but I always thought that was something different than a comic. But it seems they can be used interchangeably, to some extent. Like, if a number of comic ...

Re: The Comic Book Thread
I just finished George Takei's They Called Us Enemy - which though is sloppily marketed as graphic memoir is far from sloppy. Another marketing term would be genre-bending, which it is. But as all good memoirs, it focuses on the underside of formalized history--the lived, individual, largely unrecor...

Re: Books!
It has been more than a year since I logged in I think. It's also been almost a year since I even lurked. Can't believe I remember my login creds. Nonetheless, just picked up the much-dissed Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel. I really don't understand why the book has had so many negative reviews. ...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Folks, I just began re-reading Thomas Pynchon's Bleeding Edge, and the novel features a game/program/portal to deep web pages called DeepArcher (playing on the word "departure"). Just thought I'd share this here, what with this being a gaming forum. I think some of you might find the novel...

Re: Books!
You might be right. I just tend to have trouble believing such claims in general. Not right of me to diss him without evidence; suspicion alone is never enough after all. Oh, I certainly don't expect a comedian's stories and general claims to be reliable. They are entertainers first, and you should...

Re: Books!
2. Trevor Noah's Born A Crime - I hardly ever read anything by celebrities, coz one can never be sure just how much of their work was written by a ghost author. It's also sort of a rite of passage for celebrities to publish something. This one makes me wonder the same. Not sure how much of this boo...

Re: Books!
Currently reading two books: 1. T.C. Boyle's Outside Looking In - I recently read his short story The Shape of A Teardrop on The New Yorker, and it occurred to me that it'd been a while since I read any of his works. This one is engaging and funny, except the drag of an Introduction featuring Hoffma...

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
Nothing new - just made it to Season 5 of House. I feel like I have a faint understanding of autoimmune diseases now. I really enjoy the banter in the show, though I can't stand it when patients inevitably cough up blood or pass bloody urine or stool. Must suck as an actor to read for these parts, s...

Re: New Members: Introduce Yourself!
Howdy, folks. Signed up a while ago. Just been lurking. Finally taken the plunge. I mostly play games on my 4 GB RAM PC (the limited choice of games to choose from is liberating), and I like to read as well. Jazz Jack Rabbit is one of my favorite games. Anyone else like it too?
